No it's not my grandfather's car!
I went to the tag office today and got my purple heart liscense plate. It turns out that getting wounded entitles you to free liscense plates for the rest of your life! Plus Georgia waives some of the state taxesfor vehicle registration.

Handicapped parking sticker, free liscense plates and a pimpin' new cane! This just keeps getting better and better!

You should put a diamond on top of the handle in your cane. Then it would be pimpin'! ;-)

Glad to hear you're recovering.

Hey, I showed my mom your picture from the military ball and she wanted to know what all your 'merit badges' were and I said, um, one's the CIB and one's the Purple Heart (you have gotten that by now, right?) and, then I fell into a deep pit of ignorance.

They're mostly campaign ribbons- Global War on Terror, etc, and stuff, although the rainbow one is known as the "thanks for coming" ribbon since pretty much everyone gets it upon enlisting. The ones on the right side above his name are the unit's citation from WWII and the naval citation they received during this war for being attached to the first MEF, I believe.

He had the ribbon rack stuck into the ceiling of the Cherokee for safe keeping the week before the ball, and we talked about it a lot.

Hi Laura! Em posted some pictures (at her LJ page). You must see them. Three good ones of Trueman, and all the other folk are done up very nice. If you can't find it (and lately LJ seems to be a little flakey with entries dropping out on my friends list, at least), I can copy them and send them to your e-mail. I love digital cameras but if my hard-drive ever crashes, it'll wipe out so much.

You'll probably be alright in Georgia, but those plates don't always get the sort of attention they deserve. On a recent visit my brother-in-law noticed the Airborne veterans plates on my car and made mention of them. "Man, I wish I could get something like that." He's an Army Recruiter stationed in the San Fransisco Bay area and I told him not to worry, that he only had a few years left on his 20 and he could get some. His response wasn't what I expected to what I had intended as a jovial response.

"It's not that," He said, "even if I could get them, it just wouldn't be a good idea to use them. We've been warned by our HQ not to apply any Army stickers or anything to our cars. They've been getting reports of vandalism. Someone even egged my service vehicle a few weeks ago. If I had plates like that, someone would probably slash my tires."

That's California though. I'm sure it's not as much of a problem in Georgia. I've certainly seen nothing like that myself either, but that doesn't mean it wont happen. On the other hand, I've been itching to give my new tactical baton a trial run...

We should just nuke California and push the wreckage into the sea.

Sup Trueman! I don't know if you remember me, but I was dating Tabby for a time before you got shipped out to Iraq- we played NHL 2000 and hung out a few times. Since then I've transferred to UGA, and I've been reading your blog for a while. But that's not important.

For me, your journals were the vital missing link in the coverage of the war- the day to day struggles of the frontline trooper. I was so affected by your writings that I went with Tabby to the memorial service for Wise. I hope you're convalescing well, and good luck pimpin' it (if emmy will permit) :-P

I've had an American flag sticker and a "support our troops" sticker on my car for a couple of years, and a "Bush/Cheney '04" for at least six months, and nobody's ever done anything to my car. And I live in the San Francisco Bay Area, which has got to be just about the worst place for that kind of thing.

On the other hand, I also have a California Rifle Association sticker, and that may scare 'em off...

Seriously, though, I don't expect you'll run into any problems in Georgia. Well, unless you run into a Confederate veteran with a grudge.

"Pimpman The Gimp" action figure, coming soon to a store near you!

(Allright, go ahead people, flame me for using the word "gimp" (which essentially means one who is wounded and/or unable to properly use a limb to it's full level)... I just couldn't resist.. the "pimpin' new cnae" was just too cool to pass up)
